As Yeezy would say, May was CRAY – with back-to-back-to-back screenings at Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and Film Festival events across California, including a FREE screening to kick off the Asian American Showcase at UC Davis (alma mater of YWO Associate Producer Lanlian Szeto).
A week later, the YWO cast and crew went “Hollywood” for the film’s anticipated LA Premiere, which featured a riveting Q&A with the one & only Angry Asian Man Phil Yu and an audience glittering with Asian America’s brightest stars like consummate actress & renaissance woman Jacqueline Kim, Hawaii Five-0 heart throb Daniel Dae Kim and YouTube Sensation AJ Rafael. We were so honored to play at the renowned Directors Guild of America (the BIG HOUSE even) and we topped off the evening at the lush Bardot to after party proper amidst Hollywood’s three Ds: dancing, drinks, & DIRTY DOGS (… actually, make that FOUR D’s!).
For sure, the highlight of the month was the announcement that YWO picked up the coveted BEST SCREENPLAY award at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. AND THEN, alongside his Screenplay nod in SoCal, Mr. Mendoza was also saluted as the BEST NEW HORROR DIRECTOR by SF Weekly for his mesmerizing work on the haunting I AM A GHOST. We’re so proud of our writer/composer/cast member HP for his WELL DESERVED props from our peers in the industry – check out his blog for his reaction to the recognition.
The YWO crew will be taking June to prepare for some exciting announcements and events through the summer and fall – so stay tuned!
